SUMMARY & OBJECTIVES:
What is living and what is dead in Freud’s core psychoanalytic text a

reflects on the book’s status after a hundred years of subsequent
psychoanalytic theorizing, successive waves of feminist psychology, and a
generation of queer theory. The presentation will cover the reading of the
psychiatric texts in historical context, the place of Freud in the history of
European sexology and the history of bisexuality.
LOCATION: Bala Golf Club 2200 Belmont Avenue Philadelphia, PA
EDUCATIONAL GOALS:
- Participants will review the place of Freud’s early theories of
sexuality in the course of intellectual history.
- Participants will understand controversies about the role of sexuality in
contemporary psychoanalysis.
- Participants will observe which aspects of Freud’s early theories of
sexuality have been retained, rejected, or altered by theorists in
subsequent generations.
