Description: This talk will explore three confusing aspects of the
mother-child bond: idealization, autonomy, and envy. Each issue will be examined
in relation to a mother's development and a child's dependence and later
development. Particular attention will be given to the effect of the long
dependency of human childhood in the conflict of love-hate between mothers and
children.
