Attachment Theory and Religious Experience in Clinical
Practice
Presenter—Phillip Bennett, Ph.D.
| Learning Objectives: |
- To explore the relationship between attachment styles and
religious experience.
- To review recent research on the significance of mentalization, by
which we are able to label and find meaning in our experience.
- To examine both the regressive and progressive aspects of
religious experience, especially in the interpersonal and
intersubjective dyad of therapist and patient.
- To explore if and in what ways religious meaning-making can have a
mutative effect on attachment styles, and how this may evolve in the
transference/countertransference matrix.
